  • Was absolutely floored by how good the food was here. The atmosphere is a specific blend of punk and traditional that can only exist in Japan. Flame Squid, Butter Mushrooms, and the Shrimp were amazing

  • The food was great, and the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. Smoking is allowed inside, but it wasn't a huge problem. They charge a table fee of 500 Yen per person. The entrance is hard to find because the name is only visible in the elevator. From the street you only see an "open" sign. Just use the elevator and go to the 4th floor.

  • Hidden local izakaya serving up some solid food at very friendly prices with loud music and a great atmosphere. It's interesting because it's really easy to miss, and it looks like nothing much on the outside, but once you enter the shop, you are immediately drowned in the loud noises of locals. All the dishes were well executed, and my favourites would be the horse sashimi, karaage, and chicken wings. Pair these with highballs, and your night is all set. Do visit if you're in Gion and would like to escape the tourist traps.

  • Kokodenome Izakaya, Kyoto – the kind of place you’d walk past if you didn’t know better. I dove into crispy chicken karaage slathered with egg salad, perfectly fried potatoes with a kick of wasabi mayo, garlicky fried rice that hit all the right spots, and a tangy-sweet pork and kimchi combo. The vibe? Dark, cozy, and unpretentious—where the beer’s cold, the food’s soulful, and the locals are just as warm. It’s the kind of joint that makes you want to stay for one more round.

  • Very local joint on the fourth floor where you can smoke inside. The food is very tasty. This is a very interesting izakaya serving horse meat and some other interesting foods.

  • I loved everything about this place. The food, the vibe, even the price. We had quite a few different plates for two people for around 7000, which isn’t bad if you want to try different things at an affordable price. The vibe is cool and you get to see the people preparing your food if you are sitting at the bar. It is a little hard to find, the sign is not super clear, but once you find it the place is fantastic. Every single dish here was delicious. I highly recommend this place.

  • Very good food, didn't wait long until the food was brought to our table. Very friendly stuff. Food was very good and we highly recommend to visit this place. The highlight was grilled pork tongue.
